The Truck

I bought my used truck, knowing it had a leak from the steering mechanism. We thought it might be a hose, but found the previous owner probably hit a curb and bent the rack(it’s a rack and pinion system). I hired a friend of a neighbor who replaced it in about 4 hours. I had read up on the procedure but would not have taken it on myself. My system was easier to replace than the ones on Youtube.

There is a wire broken, to the oil sensor but that is an easy fix.

The truck needed 4 tires which I had replaced today at COSTCO. They also replaced the tire pressure sensors (although I probably should have just unscrewed the indicator bulb).   You know we have been driving for all this time without a light to tell us our tires are low.

After the front end work, I have to get a front end alignment and here you have to have an appointment and I had to search for a place that can do that soon. The best I could do is tomorrow at 8am so I had to call and reschedule my physical therapy which was scheduled for 10am back near home.

By the way, when I bought the truck I filled it up with premium because the previous owner used the expensive gas. I wanted to see what my performance and miles-per-gallon were before switching to regular. When we removed the rack and pinion, we unhooked the battery (that ensures you won’t accidentally trigger the air bags). Doing that also appears to clear the trip odometer. Luckily my title transfer form shows the mileage when I get the truck and since this is the 1st fillup, I can subtract the current mileage from that number. Hopefully I can make it back to town to COSTCO without having to add a few gallons first. I am expecting 15 mpg which is what my old truck got. The difference is that this tank is a lot larger.

I have to have the truck inspected by the end of the month and I have qualms with it being in good shape.
