Been there, done that!
Decades ago I purchased a big satellite dish and began wathing a show about gold prospecting. It looked interesting but I also thought “OH, an infomercial”. For $62.50 they let you join and sent you a gold pan, a book on where to prospect, a video, a snuffer bottle and so on. I passed because I knew there was a catch.
The next week I saw the show and didn’t remember the things they were doing. HUH? Infomercials are the same show, over and over. I staill passed.
The next week it was yet another program. I realized that they were teaching you to prospect for free; you just needed to join to be able to go to their properties.
I decided to join, but used a credit card, so that if need be, I could do a charge back. I never needed to do that.
Joining the Gold Prospectors Association of America was everything they said it would be. I went to a gold digging event and saw many of the same people from the TV shows, who had come to to Georgia from California to help us. Later I also joined the Lost Dutchmans Mining Association.
Although I didn’t find enough gold to “make a living” I did experience the rush of literally finding free money just lying there. I also experienced that feeling when I found a bit of gold and had to keep the information to myself, else others would come and start “helping”.
If you have ever prospected for gold, you can appreciate the following. People have asked me how to find gold and I tell them it is easy. “Look for gold where it is, not where it is not”. I get the strangest looks and people think I am kidding. I am not. It may seem simplistic but imagine this: Would you look for gold in your sink or on your kitchen table?
If gold is not normally found in these places, why waste your time. Why look for keys where the light is better, if you lost them a mile away?
Gold can be found in places like a stream bed. Gold is heavy, so it will not be floating like leaves on top of the water; rather it will be down deep in the sand and perhaps down on the bedrock. If water moves around a corner, there is a slow side and a faster side of the stream. Faster water will carry gold along and slower water will let it drop into the sand.
So don’t look for gold in a fast moving stream, unless you can find a slow curve.
Sometimes a bit of learninga and thought can be your golden ticket to riches
