Suppose they gave a party and nobody came?

That is somewhat the problem here with the tsunami. We did get a tsunami, but it was not as bad as expected. THAT IS OK WITH US!

Years ago we had a 6.8 earthquake and no tsunami. Still we were calm and collected. Then, today had what could have been a massive problem and we handled it with calmness and efficiency.

It was quite odd to see empty beaches and flotillas of boats headed out to sea. Another odd thing was watching the water in Hilo (on the news)as it surged in and drained out of the bay. Although the water may have only raised a few feet, Hilo has been hit with multiple tsunamis in the past and with that fresh in our minds, we evacuated where necessary. Yes, there were a couple of idiots trying to swim in the ocean, most people were gone.

I hope that our visitors feel we did a good job. I also hope that although this event was less than expected, that future warnings will be taken just as seriously.
