I agree with suggestions that if the film had been about Queen Liliuokalani and the takeover of the Kingdon, it would have been perfect for the History Channel, but many people would not see the film.
The idea of the movie follows the takeover and shows efforts to return the land to Hawaiian’s from the U.S. To have the public see the film and thus, to know the story, certain liberties are taken. Still, it should help open a dialog and allow people to understand why certain Hawaiians are not all that happy to live now in the U.S.
So I do hope that you see the film and understand why it is a story you should know and that it may cause you to read more about Hawaii’s past. A good book for that is “Hawaii’s Story” by Queen Liliuokalani. This is the 1st person story of the Queen growing up and having her kingdon taken away from her, by force. It makes me very sad. The text of the book is in public domain and may be downloaded or read online for free. A link to it is here: http://www.archive.org/details/hawaiisstorybyh00goog
You could read the book first.
