As my Yellow Lab was in heat, I decided to take her to be bred. James is a Chocolate Lab and has already fathered a litter before. O’Lena is just two years old and this is her first opportunity.
You certainly don’t need any details, briefly though, they did not mate yesterday but did today. I was there to ensure there was no injury. I’ll wait one day and they try for a second mating.
If everything workes right, I expect a litter of black and chocolate Labradors on or about June 20th (9 weeks from today). If this doesn’t take, then I can try again in October.
I have attended many deliveries, but this one would be a bit special, for obvious reasons!
I too will encourage owners to feed their puppy a raw meat diet as both its parents have been raised on. It is really simple to do and is the best food for a puppy or dog. cats thrive on raw diets too. I am happy to direct people to feeding information if they are interested.
So for now I await O’lenas progress and in a few weeks I should know if the breeding took. In the meantime, O’Lena is basking in the afterglow!
