A week ago I quietly kenneled the dogs at a neighbors and headed to the airport (you DO know not to advertise that you are leaving town and that your house is unguarded, right?)
A 5 hour flight to Los Angeles was followed by a 5 hour layover. I’m not sure why they can’t combine the flight and the layover! Then a 4 hour flight to Atlanta and a 2 hour layover and another hour or two flight to Newport News Virginia. My younger Sister and a friend flew up from Florida for the same reunion.
My Mom is getting on in years and we wanted to have everyone together that we could muster.
On Sunday, my Mom, two Sisters and friend all piled into an SUV and headed up the coast to New Jersey to visit one side of the family. The destination, Point Pleasant NJ where the cousin lives a block and a half from the beach. I was unable to go see their boardwalk repairs but did stop by the beach at the end of the street.
A friend and previous neighbor drove from a nearby town to visit as I had not seen him for decades. Some of the relatives I had never met and some I had not seen for perhaps 20 or 30 years.
We enjoyed a “boat load” of real submarine sandwiches and pizza, but that visit was all too short, lasting only a few hours.
Then we headed north a bit to visit my Aunt (Mom’s Sister) and saw their kids who are about my age. I don’t think I had seen them in 30 years.
Then we headed back to Newport News on Tuesday. We had hoped to get all the local family together for a photo on Wednesday, but as the hour approached, by Brother In Law took ill and we called the ambulance. I went with older Sis to the hospital and the admitted him overnight.
Back at the house, I did laundry, worked on some computers and packed. I got 4 hours sleep before heading to the airport.
The flight back to Kona was shorter and uneventful and in Los Angeles had just enough time to go from one gate to the other.
I got my truck, made two quick stops and went to the neighbors to get my dogs. They are home now and I am trying to get back to working on the farm. I am further behind now that I was
My Brother In Law is back home and doing well.
