The hurricane diminished into a tropical storm and changed direction at the last minute. Thus it passed the Big Island and we can STILL say we have not has a hurricane (cyclone) hit the Big Island in recent history. In fact, the closest it cam to actually “hitting” any Hawaiian Island was 5 miles. That was Kauai and they have been hit before (Iniki).
Here I had some wind and rain but noting like I have had in the past and barely noticeable.
There is a big problem with these storms and it is not what you think. People come out of their houses to look at… lightning. Mainlanders know to keep away, but lightning and thunder are so rare here that it becomes an event. In fact, most of the time we get thunder, it will be snowing on top of Mauna Kea. Hot air and cold air equals thunder. Cold air, moisture and altitude equals snow.
