Here on the Kona side, the eye supposedly moved south of my location and caused lots of rain to fall. I am midway on the island on the west shore and when I went to bed last night at 3am there was no wind, mostly cloudy skies and the moon was peeking out between the clouds. At perhaps 5am there was a bit of rain, but it did not last long and at 10 am I see another bit of light rain. Winds are less than 10 mph. So far this is a rain I would not even break out an umbrella for.
I believe that the volcanoes did protect our side of the island, at least down here in South Kona. Up near the top of the island, they lost power for 15 minutes but that was about it.
I am not complaining and am glad I went overboard preparing JUST IN CASE. However, I think I could have slept outside last night and not even known there was a hurricane nearby
I wish the rest of the state good luck.
