Another anniversary happened today. Just 50 years ago, parts of Hilo Hawaii disappeared. Leaving death and destruction in its path, a tsunami wave hit the eastern side of the island and rose to 30 feet high at one point.
Hawaii has been hit by tsunamis a number of times, and when we hear of another watch or warning, we take appropriate actions.
This tsunami caused little damage elsewhere in the islands, but the Hilo Bay area was hard hit. Sixty-one people lost their lives and about 540 homes and businesses were destroyed or severely damaged.

Unlike some anniversaries, this one is sad.
