Anniversaries happen all the time, but two important dates have just passed.
35 years ago, Voyager 1 was launched and after all this time, finally has left the building as it were. Voyager 1 is thought to have finally exited our Solar System. All of a sudden, the intensity of trapped radiation decreased and the cosmic ray intensity went up, causing scientists to state that the space craft exited our system.
Also, 5 years ago, the popular crater inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, exploded. If you have visited the park, this is the crater near the overlook where you could drive up, walk a very short distance and look down into a giant hole in the ground. That hold had recently had some steam and smoke but nothing else. Then all of a sudden and without warning, on The March 19, 2008 the eruption created a hole 115-feet-wide. Since then, the crater is now nearly 700-feet-wide — the size of 21 Olympic swimming pools.
