Add-ons Or Add-offs?
“Ad-ons Or Ad-offs?”
I had to install an app to clean up Facebook on the PC. There were too many things Facebook was adding to the pages that gave me grief.
Then there are the websites that load more ads than content. You will see a link for something like “30 Best Vacation Locations”. Each page takes 20 seconds to load, there will be an ad sitting at the bottom of the page that covers text and while you try to get to the X to close it, it starts slowly and randomly moving up the page. That is in the hopes that you will accidentally click on it. The you will notice that there is only 1/2 a sentence about the location and the next page contains the rest. That means at least 60 pages or more of ads. They call it “click bait”.
I get a page or two in and just close out everything. Because there are so many ads, the poor advertisers are paying but getting less “eyeballs” per ad because of the over zealousness of the websites.
You should know that I rarely if ever click on any of those ads. Yes, I know that the internet and free websites depend upon those ads, but perhaps if the sites go away, we would get more work done.
I went to a genealogy site and wanted to look quickly for a person. I was required to sign up and would have received a 14 day free trial. I then saw they wanted over $120 a year for a subscription. To delete the account I just created, I had to log in and find the cancel link, which I immediately did.
Yet another site that will not get my money.
