A Trifling Amount

There is a possibility that the couple was not cruising but just traveling on their own, but my best guess was that cruise ship. In any event, I never linked up with them. Perhaps they changed plans or forgot to bring a cell phone. Who knows? I do know that Hawaii has so many things to do and see that it is easy to get sidetracked.

Speaking of getting sidetracked, when I didn’t hear from them, I headed into town and went to Costco (the big warehouse store) to do some shopping. I had a list of things I “had” to buy, but I also knew I needed sweets. I have been drinking a lot of water lately and eating popcorn, but now I’m thinking of soda and chocolate. It was as I went past the rotisserie chickens and meat that I spied it. I looked and decided against it earlier, then checked out the candy aisles and when I found it wa more cost-effective, I returned. The sign said “Bananas Foster Trifle”. Now I’ve looked up both the Fosters part and the Trifle part. Wikipedia to the rescue.

Bananas Foster is a dessert made from bananas and vanilla ice cream, with the sauce made from butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, dark rum, and banana liqueur.

Trifle is a dessert dish made from thick (or often solidified) custard, fruit, sponge cake, fruit juice or jelly, and whipped cream. These ingredients are usually arranged in layers.

Before tax it is less than $10 where a bag of chocolate bards might be up to $17. The bananas won, in part because I had the cooler and ice for some frozen food and could keep this chilled.

As you may know, Costco has larger portions of products and you often save money by stocking up. Some items are not a deal, like soda, which is usually on sale at a local supermarket. I make the rounds on these trips to try to optimize my savings.

So I got the Bananas Foster home last night and tried it. It was

a) Very good and

B) Very filling.

My problem is “B” above. Filling!

It appears that I have only eaten about 75 cents worth so far. My concern is:

a) There are 34 ounces of the stuff and

b) It may be impossible to eat 34 ounces of Bananas Foster

In the above scenario I think I am tending towards “B” already!

I mention the above for 2 reasons:

a) Sometimes our eyes are bigger than our stomachs and

b) I have a blog entry I am composing about A-B testing and wanted to get you ready for it.
