My Sister is visiting Scotland and tried the free telephone number I had set up. It worked well. She dials a 6 digit number from the home phone where she was staying, and it rings at my house. The only problem was that she had to dial a couple of times to determine just how many digits she needed to dial (their dialing plans are odd over there). She thought the number was going to ring her phone on the mainland and not mine. Oops! She ended up calling my house at 4:30am and I could not find the phone quick enough. That woke the dogs and I was up for the duration.
Still, that free call is neat. If I had called the other way, the 26 minute call to Scotland would have cost me all of 20 cents! Thank goodness I don’t have to pay that!
I remember when you would go to a payphone and pay anywhere from a dime t omaybe a quarter and get a few minutes to call locally. I also remember long distance to another state costing a dollar for maybe 20 minutes.
